To sure we're not completely sexist, let's look at the best race in the history of the Distaff, the girls' championship race. 1988 pitted a pair of superstars at Churchill Downs:
Winning Colors, trained by the gregarious D. Wayne Lukas, who that year became the third filly to ever win the Kentucky Derby.
Personal Ensign. Before there was Zenyatta, there was this girl, who was 12-for-12 entering the Distaff, with a campaign that included a win over the boys in the Whitney.
What happens when you put together the two top fillies of the decade on a sloppy track? One of the best finishes in racing history.
